Archer Ray Ingersoll ::: Birth Story

As soon as I found out my due date of January 28, I planned the day I wanted to be induced....January 22, 2015. I figured I'd most likely make it to that day since I went all the way to 40 weeks with Allegra. There were a few moments during those last couple weeks I was hoping it would come sooner, but I didn't have my hopes up.

Wednesday I planned a fun girls day for me and Allegra for our last one on one time. I was a little bit emotional all day long....feeling bad for Allegra's world to get rocked, nervous for the delivery, scared for myself to do everything all over, and just not knowing if I was ready! By Wednesday night, it felt like Christmas Eve....I was so excited for the next morning.

The hospital called and said I was the first one on the list after a C-section, so I could plan on about 7am. I couldn't fall asleep until about 1 in the morning, and then I woke up with contractions, but then fell back asleep and woke up at 6:59 on the dot. Then I just waited. The hospital called at 7:22, and told me to be there at 8:30. By then, Austin was up and we laid in bed talking... so excited for the day! We got up, got ready, and headed to the hospital. AJ was still asleep, so we didn't get to see her. My mom was there planning on taking her to gymnastics and playing the day by ear depending on how fast it all went.

At 9:15 I got my IV, and then they broke my water. So much water!!!! I was dilated to a 2-1/2 and 80% effaced, so they started the pitocin. The nurse told me I could get the epidural anytime, but that it might take a half hour or so for the anesthesiologist to get there. I wanted to wait a little bit and feel the contractions. They started picking up fast, and they were about 2-1/2 to 3 minutes a part at 10 o'clock, I decided to get in line! I was really starting to feel them. It took about 45 minutes to get her there, and by that point it was perfect timing because they were really starting to hurt! I couldn't remember anything about the epidural I got with Allegra because I was in so much pain with her, I couldn't even feel it. This one, I could feel....a big poke and lots of pressure, but gosh how thankful I am for epidurals! It started kicking in fast.

At 11:30, I was at a 4, at 12:30 I was at a 5, and 1:30 I was still at a 5! I text my mom and told her it would probably be a while and she could put AJ down for a nap. At this point I was feeling so much pressure and a lot of cramping so I started upping my dose with the epidural. At 2:00, Austin said....geez I thought the baby would be here by now! Cindi was there too, and I told them they could go get some lunch or something and take a break. Cindi said, "No! As soon as we leave, the baby will come!" I was like.....no way, I'm moving slow. Well, all the sudden at 2:30, I started feeling so much pressure, so I called the nurse in to come check me, and she said....."You're ready for delivery!" ......wait what??? Yep, ready and calling Dr. Watabe. Ahhh! So I text everyone in my family and said..."baby is coming!' Lindsay got there right at 2:45 when Dr. Watabe was walking in the door. I didn't get to see my mom, but right before I started pushing, she called in the room and said she was there! So, I had Linds, Cindi and my mom outside the door. I started pushing at 2:50, and only pushed through 2 contractions when I felt his head coming out. I was so numb, but I still could feel everything. I felt his head come out, and then a twist with his shoulders, and then the rest of him.

As soon as they layed him on my stomach, I loved him....every inch of him. Perfection. Lindsay came in and started taking some pictures as we all ooooo'd and awwwww'd. They put him on the scale and he weighed a whopping 8 lbs 1 oz. They got him cleaned up a little and put him on my chest for some skin to skin, and that's when Cindi and my mom came in to see him. Everyone commented on his chubby cheeks, double chin, and massive thighs! After watching him for a little bit, the nurse was a little concerned with his breathing, so they wheeled him off to the nursery. Everyone went with Austin while my mom stayed with me. With AJ I got the shakes after, but with this one I felt so great.  I was still so numb, they had to wheel up the bed for me because I still couldn't feel my toes.

As they were wheeling me to the 2nd floor, I passed the nursery. They let me know everything with his breathing was fine, and they were giving him a bath. I got a quick peek and cute Austin and baby boy, and my heart melted a little. I ordered a cheeseburger as I waited for baby boy to get back to the room. By then we started getting some visitors. My dad got there and so did grandma Squires. at about 5:00, everyone started to clear out and it was just me, Austin, and baby (who still did't have a name). The next 2 days were spent in baby heaven....bonding! I love the hospital after giving birth!! Such a happy place!
