My dear, sweet great-grandma, "Bestegrandma", passed away today on September 25, 2008. She was 103 years old, and she died in her sleep from congestive heart failure. She has been without her soulmate, Ingo, for 21 years now. I'm sure Ingo was definitely ready for her - what a sweet reunion it probably was for those two.
Bestegrandma was born in Norway in 1905. She came to Salt Lake City, Utah with the missionaries after she was baptised when she was twelve years old with her little sister. She was married to her sweet Ingvald Olsen (who also came from Norway) when she was 19 years old. She has 2 children, 6 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren who all loved her very much.
My favorite memories of Bestegrandma are when my family would visit her on Christmas and she would make Krumkake (a Norwegian cookie made in preparation for Christmas). It was our favorite dessert ever. It is a cone shaped cookie filled with raspberries and whipping cream. I loved visiting her with my family . She was always so funny and clever - even at 103 years old.
We went and visited her one last time on Monday night to say goodbye. She had the sweetest spirit with her, and I will never forget her laying so fragile in the hospital bed and holding my face in her hands telling me how beautiful I am (yes, she was a little delusional). I'm so lucky I got to have her for 21 years of my life, and I can't wait to see her again - and to meet Ingo too!

oh, sorry for you! it's bitter sweet when they're that old and you know they're happily reunited with a loved one. i really like that first picture, so pretty!
