On the outside he is all American, but on the inside he's a true Malagasy! Austin loves everything about Madagascar, especially the people. Over conference weekend he had some friends visit from there. This cute family (Sandra not pictured) got sealed in Salt Lake Temple, and Austin was able to go. He was so happy they invited him, but a little sad when he realized that his language skills have seriously gone down hill. Poor guy. Anyway.... On conference Sunday we took them up to the canyon. The mom and dad don't speak any English, so for me - it was lots of smiling and nodding, but Austin got to speak Malagasy so he was so happy!
They had so much fun and were so happy to see the mountains. They were also shocked about all the animals that Austin told them lived up there! They asked if we had squirrels, and Austin told them we had tons, and they were so excited about it haha. It was raining and snowing up there, and they wanted us to make sure we got a picture with them in the snow because it NEVER snows in Madagascar.

And just on a side note - I wanted to document this cause we didn't have a blog in 2006...
Haingo and Fredrich came and visited us from Madagascar for our first Christmas. They stayed with Austin's family for 3 weeks, I think. I remember we felt so bad cause we were going to school and working so we couldn't hang out with them that much, and Cindi had to entertain them the whole time, which is so sweet of her! They LOVED Wal-Mart,though. One Saturday we took them up to Park City to hang out at the outlets, and they hitch hiked to Wal-Mart haha. Everyday Cindi would ask them what they wanted to do, and they would say, "Well, could we go to Wal-Mart again?" She would drop them off for hours and they just loved looking at everything! How cute is that? That was such a fun Christmas!! Austin and I went to Wal-Mart and bought them a bunch of Christmas presents to open with us Christmas morning, and they were just SOOOOOO happy. They also brought each of us presents from Mada.

Fredrich also loved cooking for everyone. One night he made me, Austin, and Ammon a meal. Austin and I loved it and ate it all up. Ammon barely touched his, but he ended up getting sick the next day and blamed it on the Malagasy food hahaha.
Haingo was a member before they visited, and Austin had worked with her a lot while he was on his mission there, but Fredrich was never really interested. A little while after their visit here, Fredrich ended up getting baptised!!! Austin was/is so so so happy!!! They are such sweet people. They used to call us once in a while. When I talk to Haingo, though, it's mostly laughing because we don't understand each other that good haha. Hopefully we will get to see them next year!!!!!
