Salem Witch Trials

Sundays are our sightseeing days, and 2 Sundays ago (I am behind), we went to...

SALEM....spooky!!!

Isn't this how you would expect Salem to look?
Old creepy churches n all......

Seriously the very first thing we saw...
a family of Ingersoll grave stones
It was crazy, and Austin got super interested after that!!

The ground was engraved with actual sayings from the accused...

19 people were hung. I thought that was a really low number for some reason...but there were MANY more accused and some put to death different ways like being pressed to death or drowning.

They would throw the accused in the ocean. If they floated they were possessed and put to death. If they drowned, they were falsly accused but dead anyway. Isn't that nuts?
Our first stop was the cemetary. I still can't believe how old all of it was. Deaths from the 1600's - so weird!!!!

It's kinda weird taking pictures in a cemetary....
This house was built before 1681....

Austin was cracking me up because he was so interested in everything!! He got after me for talking too loud in the cemetary because it was"sacred". I wanted to write down all the funny things he was saying, but I already forgot.....dangit.

This is me trying to be creepy/serious/ or something? hmm...

The big ones were for the important people like captains and such (I say such because I don't know who else was important back then? reverends? I don't know) and then there were tiny little rocks for some of them.

last cemetary pic ok? promise.

Austin got a kick out of this liquor store.... bunghole liqours. It took me a while to get it. I am smart like that.

Old ship....

hi.

so salemesque isn't it?
thats all. happy i went once but don't really want to go back.

Did I mention how humid it is getting here? I asked the girls at work if this was as humid as it got and they laughed at me. Apparently it hasn't even begun. Steamy and sticky....YES, can't wait because my face hasn't broken out enough yet.

PS - I wish every day were Sunday

We visited here 2 years ago and loved it! You do get an eerie feeling walking around in the graveyard and the city as a whole is like straight out of a horror movie. Glad you were able go experience the creepy spookiness for yourself! ha.
